Nightmare- Luffy x Reader

    (The sequel to Sleep, another Luffy x reader, please read that first so you can fully appreciate this.)





    Luffy shot up as thunder boomed overhead. He clumsily scurried out of bed to the nearest mirror he could find. Lightning illuminated the room briefly and he brought a hand up to his scar. The blood, your blood, he was so sure you had left on him was gone. ‘It was just a stupid dream.’ Luffy thought as he looked around his room. ‘I’m not on the Merry. I’m on the Sunny. And that means (Y/N) isn’t dead.” He kept repeating the last thought to himself over and over again but it didn’t erase the image of your broken and bloody body from his mind. With a tired sigh he decided that the only thing to get his mind off of your untimely false death, was food.

    (Your POV)

    You had another nightmare, again. You were usually used to such things but this one was worse than the others by far. In the dream you had been fighting an incredibly strong enemy, you stood helpless as your crewmates were slaughtered one by one in front of you. You woke up in a cold sweat that felt disgustingly like their blood had in your dream. Sleepily, you made your way to the kitchen.

    “Come on!” You whined. “I know Sanji keeps the chocolate somewhere around here. . .” After you made it to the kitchen you had decided to look for some sweets, but it looked like the pervert cook had finally noticed someone was sneaking food from the cupboards.

    "Maybe it's on the top shelf. . ." You mused. Eyeing the high cabinet warily, you decided that your need for sweets was greater than your common sense. Soon enough you had climbed up onto the countertop and were balanced precariously on it as you reached into the cabinet. As you shifted to reach deeper inside the cabinet you felt your foot slip out from under you.

     “Oh fu- Oof!” Instead of landing on your head you fell into someone’s arms. Looking back at your savior you blushed as you realized it was none other than your captain.

    “(Y/N) why were you trying to climb into that cabinet?” Asked Luffy, curiously. “Did you lose something in it? Meat?” He tilted his head to the side as he looked down at you.

    ‘Captain sure looks cute when he does that.’ You thought to yourself before blushing brightly. ‘Oh my gods, brain! What the hell!’

(No one’s POV)

    Luffy grew even more confused as your face turned red. Frowning, he put a hand on your forehead.

    “(Y/N)!” He exclaimed “You’re hot!” Your face turned the color of a tomato as your brain tried to process what he said.

    “W-What!?” You asked.

     “You’re burning up! Are you sick!?” Luffy asked, looking very worried. ‘If  (Y/N)’s sick she could end up just like. . .’ The image of your cold lifeless body flashed before his eyes. He tightened his grip on you. ‘I can’t let that happen’ Thought Luffy.

    “That must be why you were up so late. I’ll go wake up Chopper.” Said Luffy.

    “N-No! Luffy wait, that’s not it!” You yelled as he began to carry you out of the kitchen. “I’m not sick. I’m just awake because I had a nightmare!” Your captain stopped moving and looked at you in surprise. You had been having nightmares too?

    “What were you having nightmares about?” He asked.

    “Nothing. I just. . .” You whispered. In your mind you silently cursed yourself for admitting to having nightmares. Your Capitan wasn't a very serious person and the thought of him possibly making fun of your nightmares, or not understanding why they bothered you, made you reluctant to tell him. With a tired sigh you turned your head away and mustered up the courage to tell him.

    ". . .I dreamt that the entire crew was being killed in front of me. I tried to stop the killer but I was too damn weak. . . I'm always too weak" You muttered. Luffy looked shocked. The dreams you two had been having were so similar.

    "(Y/N) look at me." Said Luffy. Slowly, you turned your head back towards him. "(Y/N), you're not weak. You've saved me more times than I can count. And Zoro, and Usopp. You've practically saved the life of everyone on this ship at LEAST once. So how on Earth could you think you were weak?" You blinked up at him in surprise. That was probably the longest and most intelligent thing you'd ever heard him say.

    "It's just, I don't like seeing you all get hurt. I don't like seeing YOU get hurt. It makes me feel like I should've been stronger so I could have protected you." You told him.

    "Ne, (Y/N). You do know it's the captain's job to keep his crew safe." Said Luffy, grinning. You blushed brightly and turned your head away again.

    "Well maybe if you idiots fought better I wouldn't have to worry." You grumbled. Luffy laughed loudly as you pouted.

    "Fine then, I'll try to stop getting hurt so much if you stop being so hard on yourself. Deal?" He offered. Luffy held out his hand to you, pinky extended, and you smiled. He was so childish.

    "Deal." You whispered as you interlocked your pinky with his.

    "Shishishishi, now let's get into that fridge. What do you say, (Y/N)?" Said Luffy.

    Laughing, you nodded. "Aye aye, captain."
